No it didn’t call the burkha a ‘magician’s cloak’ it was using metaphor to illustrate that if you covered a girl in a magician’s cloak that made her disappear then how would people react? The person that complained about that line needs to take a course in reading comprehension. 

People have to understand that girls very often don’t have a choice in the matter- they are BROUGHT UP TO CONFORM - where is the choice in that? 

People should read more about how girls / women are socialised into behaving in certain ways that look on the surface like they are making a choice but ACTUALLY ISN’T A CHOICE. The same goes for boys / men - they also are socialised into a certain way of acting that appears on the surface to be choice.

Ever heard of the term self-actualisation? no? go look it up

Ever read anything by George Orwell? No? - well go read some

Ever read the Female Eunuch? Testament of Youth? The Women’s Room? go educate yourself

While you are at it- read some Chomsky, some DeBeauvoir, maybe some Dworkin and definitely Virginia Woolf.

Then read some psychology and also a lot of neurology and neuropsychology and study human behaviour for a while.

Then maybe move onto some reading about how behaviour is socialised through the brain in early childhood.

Now you might be ready to discuss how it is a ‘free choice’ of women to wear the burkha or niqab.

The only woman who wears it freely is one who has not been brought up in a culture where every woman wears it or is not brought up to think that women who don’t wear it are sluts and who chooses to wear it for their OWN reasons.

I do not hate religious people, I definitely don’t hate women who are religious (I’ll admit I think they are idiots who are selling themselves to a patriarchal control-movement but that’s their ‘choice’ right? - although I could argue about that too - and that definitely goes for nuns of any persuasion) However, I DO hate religion- because it has been used by men to control women for centuries- the fact that it also is used to control men the men are big and nasty enough to deal with themselves.

So - unless you have done the reading noted above and come at with some knowledge about what you are proposing to discuss- then don’t come at me. 

I’m starting to genuinely hate western feminism. Like before it was annoying but it was ok because we could laugh at it and learn from it. Now you guys just need to shut the fuck up.
